Natalie Kutzli Showcased Her Skills In Serbia
NOVI SAD, SERBIA — It was only her fourth-ever MMA bout, but you wouldn’t have known it from the way Natalie Kutzli carried herself inside the cage. Representing the United States as the only American athlete at the UWW Amateur MMA World Championships, Kutzli turned what could’ve been an intimidating moment into a defining one — capturing gold at 70kg and announcing her arrival on the world stage.
“I’m just at a loss for words,” Kutzli said moments after her hand was raised. “It just feels so surreal.”
Across from her stood Oliwia Stawska of Poland, a seasoned competitor with far more experience. But Kutzli fought like a veteran — composed, confident, and completely in control. From the opening bell, she dictated the pace with sharp striking and relentless pressure, winning every round on the judges’ scorecards.
“Stawska was a challenging fighter for sure,” Kutzli said. “She was really tough. But it was such an amazing opportunity to face someone with that kind of experience. I loved every second of it.”
From Michigan to the World Stage
Kutzli’s journey began far from the bright lights of international competition — in Michigan, where she first discovered martial arts through taekwondo. That foundation of discipline and movement led her to wrestling, a sport that would shape her toughness and mindset.
Through it all, her mother, Jeanie, was right there driving her from one practice to another, supporting her switch from mats to cage, and fueling her dreams.
“The first person I talked to was my mom,” Kutzli said with a smile. “She’s so proud of me. I do this for her — she raised me as a single mom, and everything I accomplish is to thank her. One day, I want to make it to the UFC and be able to take care of my family.”
That motivation — fighting not just for herself but for something bigger showed in Serbia. Despite being new to the amateur MMA scene, Kutzli displayed poise, technique, and the kind of grit that separates champions from contenders.
Representing GAMMA USA, Natalie became the first-ever American to bring home gold for the USA National Team— capturing the 70kg World Title with the guidance of her coach James David Gray from Scorpion Fighting System (SFS).
A Symbol of the Next Generation
Natalie Kutzli’s win wasn’t just another gold medal — it was a statement. A young woman from Michigan, standing alone under the U.S. flag, proving that American amateur MMA is producing elite talent ready to compete on the global stage.
With every strike and every takedown, Kutzli embodied what’s next for women’s combat sports — driven, disciplined, and emotionally grounded in purpose.
As she continues her journey from world champion to future professional, one thing is clear: Natalie Kutzli is a name we’ll be hearing for years to come.
